History and Maintenance

The history of Friulane shoes is steeped in tradition and craftsmanship, originating from the Friuli region of northeastern Italy. These iconic shoes have a heritage dating back centuries, deeply rooted in the local culture and artisanal practices.

Originally worn by peasants and farmers in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, Friulane shoes were simple yet functional footwear, typically made from locally sourced materials like canvas or felt. Their distinctive design featured a flat sole and a soft, slipper-like construction, perfect for navigating the Venice laguna on a Gondola.

Over time, Friulane shoes evolved from practical workwear to fashionable footwear, gaining popularity among the aristocracy and urban dwellers alike. Their versatility and comfort made them a staple in Italian fashion, with artisans honing their skills to create exquisite variations of the classic design.

Today, Friulane shoes continue to be handmade by skilled craftsmen and women, preserving the legacy of traditional Italian shoemaking. While the materials and styles may have evolved, the essence of Friulane remains unchanged – a symbol of timeless elegance, craftsmanship, and Italian heritage.

Introducing Hester van Eeghen Friulane shoes -Venezia Classic and Laguna Mary Jane, where eco-sustainability meets Italian craftsmanship. Our shoes are meticulously handcrafted in Italy, embodying timeless elegance and ethical values.

Each pair of Friulane shoes is made with 100% natural materials, ensuring minimal environmental impact. We pride ourselves on using recycled rubber soles, contributing to the reduction of waste and promoting a sustainable future.

When assembling our shoes, we do not use glues or other polluting materials: solid and resistant stitching, both machine and manual, joins the upper and sole. Jute and the fabrics used, only from natural fibers, offer comfort and healthiness to the feet

The typical Friulian outer sole, made from the beginning with recycled bicycle tires, remains as such but enriched by compliance with the latest CE standards.

Crafted from luxurious 100% cotton velvet, our shoes offer extreme breathability and softness, providing unparalleled comfort with every step.

The values embodied by Friulane shoes are a testament to our commitment to sustainability, quality craftsmanship, and timeless elegance.

A wide choice of colorful Friulane to be combined with Hester van Eeghen bags. A perfect color addition to make your outfit.

Friulane shoes are made following completely artisanal processes, they are ambidextrous. When first worn, they have a tight fit that will loosen over time. After being worn for a few hours they will adapt to the shape of the foot.

For cleaning we recommend using a damp cloth to remove any stains. In alternative, it can be washed in a washing machine at 30°, a delicate program and spin. If the shoes get wet, it is necessary to put them to dry away from direct sources of heat, such as driers or radiators.

Carry with joy!
